5 things that all baseball players need to know in order to excel on and off the field. These 5 things are what we like to call, The Pillars Of Success: Physical Condition, Vision, Body Management, Nutrition, & Mental Condition.

Without the use of ALL 5 pillars, you will be incapable of achieving long term success. So lets break it down for you…

Physical Condition:

To be the best, you need to learn how to train the best. Physical conditioning is only 1 out of the 5 things that you need to work on in order to excel in baseball. Not only does conditioning help you get faster and stronger, it also helps your state of mind.

Exercise releases endorphins, which are powerful chemicals in your brain that lifts your spirits and make you feel good. So having your physical conditioning figured out is a small piece to the large puzzle. Now, lets look at our 2nd pillar (vision), vision  can be trained just like lifting weight.

Vision:

In Baseball, you need to be able to make quick and accurate judgements and decisions. This involves much more than just seeing clearly (20/20). There are many functional skills, such as depth perception, tracking, and focusing, and they all work together to help you perceive your surroundings as best as possible.

“The better you see the ball, the faster you can pick up the
rotation, the better hitter you can be.”

-Former Cubs outfielder Darnell McDonald

Body Management:

Knowing how to take care of your body is important so you can avoid burnout and injury. It is crucial as a baseball player to rest and properly stretch. If you are tired and sluggish, your mind isn’t fully in the game and you are more likely to make a mistake on the field.

Alongside, stretching is very consequential because if you don’t stretch or stretch wrong, are you are more likely to get hurt. Which can then lead to much larger issues. Now, lets see how nutrition has an effect in the baseball world.

Nutrition:

Nutrition is something you don’t want to take lightly. You need to understand the effects food and beverages have on your health and ability to perform. As a baseball player, you want to be the best so you need to eat and drink the best. Hydration is key to a healthy life

Mental Conditioning:

To be successful in baseball you need a high sport specific IQ, and learn how to channel your mental focus while managing emotions.

“Never let the fear of striking out get in your way”

-Babe Ruth

OF ALL these vital pillars vision is most commonly left out. Our vision is much more comprehensive than we give it credit for. Which is interesting because If you break down any play in any sport it will follow the process of….
